Terms of Service

Effective date: April 2, 2026

What this tool does

MiSG.app performs automated mathematical calculations based on user-provided scoring inputs and publicly available statutory data from the Michigan Sentencing Guidelines Manual. It automates the lookup and display of sentencing guideline ranges, PRV and OV scoring tiers, habitual offender enhancements, and related calculations.

The tool does not interpret facts, evaluate evidence, recommend scores, or provide legal advice. All scoring decisions are made by the user. By using MiSG.app, you agree to these terms.

No warranty

MiSG.app is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We have verified the underlying data against the 2025 Michigan Sentencing Guidelines Manual published by the Michigan Judicial Institute and maintain an automated test suite covering grid values, offense classifications, and scoring logic. Despite these efforts, errors may exist. Statutes and guidelines change, and there may be a delay before updates are reflected in the tool.

MiSG.app is not endorsed by, affiliated with, or sponsored by the Michigan Judicial Institute, the Michigan Supreme Court, or any government entity.

Limitation of liability

Sorin & Pyle, Trial Lawyers, its attorneys, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any damages — direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive — arising from the use of or inability to use this tool. This includes, without limitation, damages arising from incorrect calculations, data errors, software bugs, statutory changes not yet reflected in the tool, or reliance on the tool's output in any legal proceeding.

You assume all risk associated with your use of this tool and any reliance on its output.

User responsibility

You are solely responsible for verifying all calculations against the current Michigan Sentencing Guidelines Manual and applicable statutes before relying on them in any legal matter. This tool is a calculation aid, not a substitute for professional judgment or independent verification.

The tool's output should never be the sole basis for any legal decision, sentencing recommendation, or plea negotiation. Sentencing guidelines are advisory following People v. Lockridge, 498 Mich 358 (2015), and proper application requires the exercise of professional judgment that no automated tool can replace.

No attorney-client relationship

Use of MiSG.app does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Sorin & Pyle, Trial Lawyers. The tool provides automated calculations, not legal representation or legal advice.

If you need legal representation, please contact our firm directly.

Shared links and QR codes

When you share a calculation via link or QR code, only anonymous scoring data is encoded — the offense, point values, and enhancement selections. No case metadata, party identifiers, dates, or notes are included in shared links.

Exercise professional judgment when sharing links, as the combination of offense and scoring values may be identifiable in some contexts. For more detail on how MiSG.app handles data, see our privacy and data handling policy.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms at any time. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of MiSG.app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any disputes arising from or related to the use of MiSG.app shall be resolved in the courts of Ottawa County, Michigan.
